Cold Coding Part Two

This time with less cold. I’m like the house painter who’s own house never gets painted. My website is a mess. I’ve started more blogs and everything is all over the place. It was finally time to do something about it. So coming off the success (haha) of the photo blog, I’ve been attempting a custom Thesis design for the DB Designs Services site. I’ve been creating multiple feature boxes and mastering Wordpress hooks – or at least attempting to. It’s funny how I work. When downstairs and on the laptop, I have been been working on the thesis design. When I’m upstairs on my computer, I edit photos and work in Photoshop/Dreamweaver. And I just move back and forth between the two machines and the 2 projects. So, while upstairs yesterday I started designing a new home page for my website. A landing page to connect all my various sites. And BEHOLD! the new and improved dawnblanchfield.com~ Pretty spiffy eh? Next on the chopping block – a complete rebuild of my photography portfolio.  This time around there will be no flash. No flash! Hey that reminds me, I need to make a cape for a certain someone’s <cough>Paul!</cough> upcoming…

Pretty vacant

No need to be so smug about it As you know, I’ve been working on the HS Tourney website for the last couple months. Well, last week I had finally gotten it to a state of ‘almost done’. The Add and Search functions were working. The forums were almost there. It was getting close. And Chris was getting antsy. By Thursday he was really pushing me to get the site up. Telling me not to worry about it being perfect. Ha! easy for him to say! So, when I should have been packing on Friday, I was moving the site from my local server to the hosting server. And the site is now (a)live and kicking! Check it out – www.hstourney.com  There are still a few things to tweak and pictures to add, but Bob is happy and coaches across the land have begun to add tournaments. And Chris was of course right – getting it pushed up before the long weekend allowed me to relax and enjoy the weekend. Damn it. Only dead fish go with the flow That was painted on a sidewalk on the University of Michigan campus when I attended x number of years ago. Well…

Look! Up in the sky!

Yeah, Superman would be cool. So would a flying pig. This isn’t either of those. It is the much anticipated site re-design for Dawn Blanchfield Photography! Yes, the rumors are true. Go to www.dawnblanchfield.com and see for yourself. And then promptly come back here and tell me what you think. And if you’re running Internet Explorer 6 or worse yet – 5.5, stop it right now! Download IE7. Or Mozilla Firefox, Opera, or any of the other perfectly acceptable browsers. You’ll thank me later. And now that my site is done, I can get back to figuring out this whole database thing for HSTourney. And I need to pick the photos I’m going to show at Second Saturday next month.  I’m going to frame 5 or 6 prints. But which ones? Thoughts?

Toes intact. Dreams shattered.

Hmm. I should probably explain that last post. But I’m busy trying to save this screwed up weekend by working on my website. I’ve almost got it done. I’m building the gallery pages now.  Once those are finished and properly linked up, I just need to write the About page. Joy. Almost as painful to do as an Artist Statement. Almost as painful as the disappointment of this weekend. I should be on my way home from Santa Cruz right now. I should be basking in the glory of spending last Friday with Joe McNally and 699 other photographers! But no. None of that happened because Erin won’t sleep in a hotel room. Ugh. And the worst part is – you can’t be mad at a baby. Only sad, depressed, and punch-drunk tired. So, to recap: birthday wasted packing for nothing, missed the Lighting Workshop that was my birthday present, no cake with the ubers, and the sad realization that there will be no vacations with Erin in the near future. Sorry folks who’ll be in Vegas next week,  we’re not coming. I can’t pull those all-nighters like I used to. Officially too old. Happy flippin’ birthday to me.

Split personalities and well-lit toes

Second post since the upgrade and I’m already facing a conundrum… Hmm, I’m not sure how to go about discussing this without revealing my master web-site plans. Oh well, just know that all I speak of will take time. Lots of time. And if it happens earlier than that – consider it an early Christmas present. The plan is to change dawnblanchfield.com from its current incarnation as a photo-blog, to a website proper. Meaning a home page with links to photo galleries, About page, blog, etc. The galleries will be set groups of photos organized by themes, only updated occasionally and treated as more of a portfolio. My big question is the blog. I had thought about starting a new blog for the website that is about photography only. Leaving the elfini blog as a stand-alone personal blog that I would only quietly link to from the About page. Maybe. Or should I just include elfini as part of the site and post the photography related entries here? What to do what to do… I’m sure you have an opinion- please post a comment with your thoughts! I would set up another poll, but the results display from the last poll…

I want to verse you

You heard that little birdy right – my new photo site is up and running. It took several days of downloads, databases, mySQLs, phps, uploads via FTPs, and several small sacrafices to Al Gore, but I did it. So, without further ado, I give you -dawnblanchfield.com!Sure, there are only a few photos there now, but I’ve got a whole second hard-drive full of images, so I’ll try to add one a day for awhile. Of course there will always be flickr for you baby-viewing needs. In fact, after a few more 4th of July beach shots, there is quite the run of family photos to be uploaded. Including before and after shots of Paul’s head. And speaking of haircuts, I did a few more things this weekend. There was the Scott Kelby Worldwide Photowalk on Saturday morning in Old Town Sacramento. That was alot of fun and I met some very cool people. I’ll have those shots up on Flickr by next Tuesday. And when I got home I did this!Kyle on the first day of Middle School:Kyle after I gave him a haircut: Yes, I cut Kyle’s hair. And I think I did a pretty good job of it. Of…
