On zombies, birthdays, and sewing machines

7 months later, it appears this blog has once again risen from the dead…

BRAAAAIIIINNNSSSSS!!!!

There have been a couple times these last few months when I thought about writing a post; Kyle’s 15th birthday, Easter (for the whole ”it has risen” thing and pics of Kyle being taken down by a 3yo with a squirt gun!), Erin’s 5th birthday, but today is the day! So, let’s catch up.

That new drug? After playing around with the dosage, I’ve found a balance that makes my migraines much more manageable and the side-effects minimal. So that is huge and has improved all our lives – cause it was getting bad people. Let’s file that in the “good news” column.

There were some holidays. Fun and merriment had by all.

In January we went to Florida to visit my parent and freeze our butts off at Disney World!

There were a bunch of birthdays. (Not mine. Don’t worry, you didn’t miss it!) Too much cake had by all.

It has just about been a whole school year since my last post. I have 2 semesters under my belt. Lots of good stuff there. Kyle has 3 weeks left of his first year of high school. And then 4 weeks of summer school. I don’t want to talk about it. ::glares at the “bad news” column::

Oh and I finished this today!

Well, I think that’s enough for today. Baby steps…

(and 2 of the fingers on my left hand are too tender to type anymore! #multiplestabwounds)

delay of game

Oh hell, you didn’t really think I would post the next installment of our Boston trip recap the very next day as promised did you? What are ya new?!

Well, I did have good intentions. I just didn’t foresee getting sick. I blame Kyle.

So, a mere 4 days late, I give you my Friday in Boston:

Chris had another meeting to attend, so after sleeping in a bit, I headed out to the Museum of Fine Arts.

King Menkaura (Mycerinus) and queen

Virgin and Child with Saint John the Baptist by Sandro Botticelli
Ecce Homo by Hieronymus Bosch (sadly lacking in demons)
Part of the Richard Avedon Fashion exhibit

While I saw some great art, I still think the Detroit Institute of Arts is a superiour museum. I’ve been spoiled. But I will say that the MFA’s gift shop has the best art book collection I’ve ever seen! And then the museum turned into a casino and it took me another hour to get the hell out of it. damn.

By the time I got back to the hotel, Chris was done with his meetings. Yay! And we headed back out to see the city. We walked along the harbors and then cut in to go to the North End. Walked over to the Old North Church and the Copp’s Hill Burying Ground. Then we walked back through downtown to the Old State House.  Unfortunately it was almost closing time by then so we didn’t get to take the tour. So it was back to the streets and to the hotel to plan for dinner.

Statue of Paul Revere
Angel of Death on headstone.
Headstone at Copp's Hill Burying Ground
Old State House
Our hotel - the Intercontinental.

That was a hella lot of walking. Our 4 Diamond hotel had a lovely tub, but was lacking epson salts.

To be continued… one of these days.

More than a feeling

I love love loved Boston! I no longer love shoes.

I also discovered that I do not love puddle-jumpers or red-eyes. In fact, I’m not sure I like flying at all anymore.  I certainly did not like that panicky feeling that had me pacing the aisle of the plane in the middle of the night. And I’m pretty sure Chris did not enjoying sitting in the middle seat so that I could have the aisle seat on the second half of each flight. So going forward there will be Valium or Xanax ingested before any flights. And once those prescriptions are procured, I will gladly go back to Boston! Cause just look at this city:

Boston waterfront. Our hotel, the Intercontinental, is tucked behind the green glass building on the left.

Boston Financial District
The buildings rock!

View of the harbor from the 4th floor of the ICA.

Nice huh? So after the flight to San Francisco and the red-eye to Boston, we checked into our hotel Thursday morning and took a nap! Then at noon Chris left for his business meeting and I split to check out the city. I crossed the harbor and walked over the the Institute of Contemporary Art and it was full of cool art! I especially like the Charles LeDray exhibit. Then I walked a bit more around the Financial District before heading back to the hotel. You gotta pace yourself ya know?

And heeding my own advice, I’ll post my Friday wanderings tomorrow. Going to bed now. Still so tired…

I’m a man now Tanta!*

Well, 7 days after I put my boy on a plane, I finally got a call from Kyle this morning. At least he claimed to be Kyle. I still have my doubts.

::ring ring::

me: “hello?”

guy on phone: “hello?”

me: “hello?”

guy on phone: “hello?”

Repeat this exchange at least 3 more times.

me – exasperated: “Who is this?!”

guy on phone: “Kyle! Your son!”

me: “…”

Yeah, I asked him for proof. I should have asked him if he had made any wishes on a Zoltar machine while in Venice.

it’s quiet. too quiet…

Kyle left yesterday for his annual summer trip to Malibu and he’ll be gone for almost 2 weeks.

Strange. I have not done one happy dance since leaving the airport. In fact, I’ve been kind of in a funk since then. What is up with that?! Usually I don’t start missing him until after the 1st week.

Maybe it’s because Kyle no longer travels as an unaccompanied minor. I had moments of panic as I was driving away because there is no airline personal supervision anymore. When the plane lands he is free to walk off whether his aunt is there to pick him up or not. Not pleasant to think about.

Maybe it’s not Kyle’s absence at all, but the problems I’m having migrating a client’s blog from Movable Type to Typepad. It is just not working. And both platforms are run by the same people! How f’ed up is that? gah. So completely frustrating.

Maybe it’s a lack of paint fumes in my life. I think tomorrow I need to paint while Erin is at Jens. Turpentine fixes everything!

Cue the Alice Cooper

Today is Kyle’s last day of school.  Which means by next Monday afternoon I’ll be hearing the sweet refrains of “I’m bored” at least twice an hour each and every day for the next 10 1/2 weeks. oh the joy.

And to make sure we are all having fun, I get to send him back to the school twice a week for an hour of math tutoring! Hey, that’s what you get when you get a ‘D’ in math dude.

On the bright side he has basketball practice every Tues and Thurs evening throughout the summer. So for at least for 4 hours a week he won’t be sitting on his butt in front of a giant screen. I wish I could say the same for me.
