Updates and then some…

wow. I logged into my website 2 days ago and realized that not only had I missed posting about the last 2 shows I was in, but I also hadn’t added any of the new work I had done this year!

The past eight months have been hard and I have been grieving and depressed for much of it. So much so that my daughter titled one of my recent paintings “The Great Depression of 2017”. damn. But like always, I paint what I feel. There has been a lot of positive things among the sad and in the big picture view life is still very very good. I have just allowed myself to be present and feel everything as I moved slowly through all the emotional ups and downs.  And although I feel like I have been creatively off my game, I actually have been painting quite a lot this past month. So, yesterday I photographed the new pieces and updated the galleries.

I am always struggling with how to organize the galleries on this site. Currently the pages are by medium, but should I include work that is over 2 years old? I’ve already pulled all photographs off the site. I haven’t worked in Cold Wax in awhile, should I pull that too? Should I create galleries based on specific bodies of work? There are definitely 2 different styles of paintings all intermingled in that gallery, but that is just the order I painted them in last year. Now what I’m painting has shifted again into a new body of work, should there be a some sort of delineation in the gallery?

And I just removed the link to my old dusty blog, and now I’m rambling here! Stange days indeed. So, what have we missed? Buzz – the Art of Encaustic Painting is still up for 3 days at Blue Wing Gallery in Woodland CA.

The Crocker’s Big Names Small Art was last week. I donated this pretty encaustic photograph, but did not attend this year’s auction as it was the same night as my daughter’s Open House at school.

I always enjoy BNSA and was pretty bummed to miss it, but there is always next year!

In upcoming news, I will have my painting “Catrina” in the It Figures show at Blue Line Arts in Roseville. I’m also thinking about putting these small encaustic collages in the Small Works Gallery.

It is also time to think about what to submit to the State Fair! And the Member shows at Blue Line and Viewpoint are coming up…  #thestruggleisreal

So, if you have any suggestions about gallery set ups, I would love to hear them! And I’ll try not to fall behind on my website maintanence again, but no promises. 🙂

True ‘I’ve been too busy to rebel’ Spirit

So, let’s re-cap. My baby boy is 16. My spring semester has started and it is already kickin’ my ass. More on that later. I currently have art work in 2 group exhibits with a benefit show coming up at the end of the month. 2013 has been pretty exciting eventful exhausting so far.

I am taking a quick break between to-do lists to show you my results for the True Free Spirit class’s January project. This post showed you the beginnings of my first piece and a digital painting. Here is the finished 9×12″ piece:

Damn. There is a lot going on in th0se mere 108 square inches!

I also downloaded a new iPad app, Procreate, and made this:

And as much as I said I love the ArtRage app, this one is far more user friendly and has some fun textures. And between the 2, I can RULE THE WORLD!!

ahem   //smoothes skirt, sits back down

And then I jumped on a chance to donate another “heart” themed piece for the Hearts for the Art Benefit on Feb 26th. Why? Because I have obviously suffered a severe blow to the head. Having already ear-marked the only pieces I had that referenced the heart to the BodyTribe show, I was left having to create something new. So in an attempt to make things just a wee bit easier for myself, I decided to loosely recreate my True Free Spirit girl on an unfinished 20×24″ canvas. And that worked out swimmingly!

No muss, no fuss. Just need to build another frame for it and it is ready to go.

And as much as I would like to start the February project, I have a painting for my Illustration class due in 2 weeks! Back to the to-do list…

On zombies, birthdays, and sewing machines

7 months later, it appears this blog has once again risen from the dead…

BRAAAAIIIINNNSSSSS!!!!

There have been a couple times these last few months when I thought about writing a post; Kyle’s 15th birthday, Easter (for the whole ”it has risen” thing and pics of Kyle being taken down by a 3yo with a squirt gun!), Erin’s 5th birthday, but today is the day! So, let’s catch up.

That new drug? After playing around with the dosage, I’ve found a balance that makes my migraines much more manageable and the side-effects minimal. So that is huge and has improved all our lives – cause it was getting bad people. Let’s file that in the “good news” column.

There were some holidays. Fun and merriment had by all.

In January we went to Florida to visit my parent and freeze our butts off at Disney World!

There were a bunch of birthdays. (Not mine. Don’t worry, you didn’t miss it!) Too much cake had by all.

It has just about been a whole school year since my last post. I have 2 semesters under my belt. Lots of good stuff there. Kyle has 3 weeks left of his first year of high school. And then 4 weeks of summer school. I don’t want to talk about it. ::glares at the “bad news” column::

Oh and I finished this today!

Well, I think that’s enough for today. Baby steps…

(and 2 of the fingers on my left hand are too tender to type anymore! #multiplestabwounds)
