In the temple of the gallery scene

Well, 5 years after covid blew up my little art world, I am not only making art again, I am showing art again!! In fact, I have pieces in 2 shows this month.

Erin and I both have pieces in the annual Membership Medley at Blue Line Arts in Roseville.

My piece is a monotype “Damaged” that I made last fall during my gell plate printing phase. And Erin’s piece is the first portrait that she painted! She kicks ass as I’m sure I’ve said before.

The 3rd Saturday Reception is July 19th from 5-7pm

The second show I am in is The Art of Printmaking at The MACC. This show is really exciting for me as it was juried and my first lithograph was accepted!

The reception was last weekend, but the show is up until July 26th and I can’ recommend it enough. So much great work – and all printmaking! ::swoon::

Get out there and check out all the shows!

Updates and then some…

wow. I logged into my website 2 days ago and realized that not only had I missed posting about the last 2 shows I was in, but I also hadn’t added any of the new work I had done this year!

The past eight months have been hard and I have been grieving and depressed for much of it. So much so that my daughter titled one of my recent paintings “The Great Depression of 2017”. damn. But like always, I paint what I feel. There has been a lot of positive things among the sad and in the big picture view life is still very very good. I have just allowed myself to be present and feel everything as I moved slowly through all the emotional ups and downs.  And although I feel like I have been creatively off my game, I actually have been painting quite a lot this past month. So, yesterday I photographed the new pieces and updated the galleries.

I am always struggling with how to organize the galleries on this site. Currently the pages are by medium, but should I include work that is over 2 years old? I’ve already pulled all photographs off the site. I haven’t worked in Cold Wax in awhile, should I pull that too? Should I create galleries based on specific bodies of work? There are definitely 2 different styles of paintings all intermingled in that gallery, but that is just the order I painted them in last year. Now what I’m painting has shifted again into a new body of work, should there be a some sort of delineation in the gallery?

And I just removed the link to my old dusty blog, and now I’m rambling here! Stange days indeed. So, what have we missed? Buzz – the Art of Encaustic Painting is still up for 3 days at Blue Wing Gallery in Woodland CA.

The Crocker’s Big Names Small Art was last week. I donated this pretty encaustic photograph, but did not attend this year’s auction as it was the same night as my daughter’s Open House at school.

I always enjoy BNSA and was pretty bummed to miss it, but there is always next year!

In upcoming news, I will have my painting “Catrina” in the It Figures show at Blue Line Arts in Roseville. I’m also thinking about putting these small encaustic collages in the Small Works Gallery.

It is also time to think about what to submit to the State Fair! And the Member shows at Blue Line and Viewpoint are coming up…  #thestruggleisreal

So, if you have any suggestions about gallery set ups, I would love to hear them! And I’ll try not to fall behind on my website maintanence again, but no promises. 🙂

Additional July shows

Turns out I have work in two more shows this July. 4 pieces in 4 different galleries –  not too shabby!

I have a new painting in the annual FRIDA SHOW at Studio 10 in Arthouse on R. This show will run through August 11th.

And I also have a small collage  – and I mean small! 1.5 inch square small – in the MicroArtCollection – Part III at DaDas Art Gallery Boutique in East Sacramento. This part of the MicroArtCollection will be up through Aug 5th.

So, you’ve got 4 weeks or so to check out 4 awesome Sacramento galleries. Ready… go!

oh right, this also happened – I had a poem (I’m not a writer!!) published in Dime Show Review. I’m not sure how I feel about this.

Members Only

Trendy jacket from the 80s (I hear they are back!) or how I’m getting some art out into the world this summer?

Well, with the temperatures already hitting the triple digits here in northern California, I don’t think I’ll be needing a jacket, so I’ll just participate in a couple gallery member shows over the summer months. I think that is a better fit for me. And the galleries are always air conditioned!

First up I will have a photographic print  – a gold toned kallitype self-portrait to be exact – at Viewpoint Gallery:

Silver Anniversary Members’ Exhibit

Exhibit Dates: Wednesday, Jul. 6 to Saturday, Aug. 6

Artist Reception (Member Event):

Friday, Jul. 8, 2016 – 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm

2nd Saturday Opening (General Public):

Saturday, Jul. 9, 2016 – 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm

And then a couple weeks later a mixed media collage at Blue Line Arts:

Membership Medley

Exhibit Dates: Friday, Jul. 15 to Saturday, Aug. 20

3rd Saturday Reception:

Saturday, Jul. 16, 2016 – 6:00pm to 9:00pm

There are a couple more upcoming shows I plan on entering in the coming months. I’m hoping to get that damn pie out in the world! My Fiber Arts class is over, but I’m still thinking and working in that vein – needle, thread, and dye have firmly pushed the paints aside for now. I do have an collage workshop coming up though so I’ll keep my glue stick handy.

Not Sacramento

I have a busy week ahead of me with 2 art deliveries for shows not in Sacramento!

Tomorrow I have to drop off my painting “Songs from the Void” at Blue Line Arts in Roseville for the 2015 Member’s Melody show. Roseville. So close!

Even more exciting is that the gallery is including a “Mini Members” show in the children’s gallery at the same time. My 8 yo daughter, Erin, will have her latest painting “Sunset” on display!

How kick ass is that?

3rd Saturday Reception is July 18th 7-9pm.  Come out and see both our paintings hanging in the same gallery.

On Wednesday I have to deliver another piece, but this time I’m heading way out of town to Benecia in the SF Bay area. I am thrilled to have my collage “Side Effects” accepted in the Fragments: the Art of Collage and Assemblage” show juried by Robert-Jean Ray.

Opening Reception is Saturday, Aug 1st 7-9pm.

95 artists! I’m sure it will be worth the drive.

Unhinged for the new year!

I have been asked to participate in a ‘works on paper’ show at BodyTribe next month. I’ve spent the last semester working on several series of monotypes in both ink and encaustic on rice and mulberry papers, so am thrilled to have a chance to share some of them. Since all the pieces will be hung without mats or frames, I’ve decided to show my latest trace monotypes. They are quirky and fun and perfect for this type of display. So come on out next 2nd Saturday, Jan 10th, for the “UNHINGED” Art Show and see the work of some of Sacramento’s favorite artists! The show runs through Feb 7, 2015.

And the next Saturday, Jan 17th, is the 3rd Saturday reception at Blue Line Arts in Roseville for the Hallberg Merit Award Exhibition! The 4 award winners will each have a small selection of their exhibit pieces on display from Jan 9 – Feb 7, 2015. The 3rd Saturday Art Walk reception runs 6:00-9:00pm.

If you don’t want to want until the new year to see some of my work, you still have time to catch the Twelve: Small Wonders show at Viewpoint Photographic Art Gallery! Show is up through Jan 3, 15.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. I can’t wait for what 2015 will bring!
