Big Fun at the Fair!

So we consulted our calendars and cross-referenced the 7-day weather forecast and determined that this past Monday was the best day to go to the California State Fair. Chris left work early, I picked up Erin from Summer Camp, hats were donned, and off we went.

First up: Fine Art Exhibit to check out my pieces and all the other entries.

Me and my muse:

And then it was off to see the animals and all the things Erin could ride. Like this bear:

And a racehorse! She wasn’t too happy way up there.

The petting zoo more than made up for that.

And riding a real horse!

After checking out all the animals, we hit the midway. I don’t think she had as much fun as I did on the Tilt-o-Whirl, but she liked the jeep.

And then rode another horse:

And the swings!

A well deserved ice cream break in the shade:

And then the giant slide with dad!

We took a tour around CalExpo on the monorail before a final spin on the ferris wheel with dad!

Great day!

Let the games begin!

or something like that…

It is July 10 and this week is busy! And the beginning of a very busy month. Man, I still need to write my Artist Statement for my solo show!

Last night I dropped off a print at Vox for this show:

Join me and 53 other artist/photographers in a “12 Hours in Sacramento” art experiment. These artists have come together to showcase individual images taken over a span of 12 hours in the greater Sacramento area. For my part, come and see what 6pm in the sticks looks like.

The California State Fair opens on Thursday July 12th! Make sure you check out the Fine Art Exhibit in Expo Center Building 7. Look for my 2 award winning photographs!

And because 3 is the magic number, The Viewpoint Member’s Exhibit opens this week with the Artist Reception on Friday night (Friday the 13th – you know it’s gonna be good!) and then the Second Saturday reception on the 14th. I am showing a new photograph “The Three Graces”. It is one of the preliminary images of a new series I am working on.

So I hope our paths cross as some point during this busy art-filled weekend!

Next week I buckle down and get that statement written and begin the final promo push for next month’s show!

it’s over //insert sad-face here

Tomorrow is Monday. And I will get up at 6:30AM and shower, make a cup of coffee and then get the kids up and ready for school. I’ll drive Erin to preschool and then… turn around and come home. My semester is over. No more 4 happy hours in the darkroom twice a week. I’m starting to twitch from developer withdrawal already!

The only upside I can think of is that I will now be able to catch up on editing photos. I have several rolls of negs to scan and the pics from Seattle to upload. In the meantime, I do have these photos of Erin that we took one morning before school a couple weeks ago. What a goof-ball!

Oh how I was this one was in focus! What a little minx she is.

pretty

um, yeah I don't know what she's doing either

So, I’ll get caught up on uploading photos, I’ve a pretty impressive summer reading list, and I might even start a new painting. Watch for those “I’m bored/I miss school” tweets coming soon to a screen near you!

Boy wonder

Kyle at Vox show

Vox Sacramento’s Children’s Art Show opened last Saturday night and I managed to get a few pics of Kyle and his photographs up on Flickr. I like this one –

Portrait of the Artist

I think it really captures his enthusiasm for the whole affair.

In other Kyle news – he made the school basketball team!  Practices 6 days a week starting…  now.
