2 weekends ago we went to Santa Cruz. I double checked my calendar to confirm this because it sure doesn’t feel like I’ve been to Santa Cruz recently. We drove down Friday night as usual, got up Sat morning and drove down to Monterey and went to the aquarium. I took a few pics but most were slightly out of focus because we cruised through the place at break-neck toddler speed! I think we may have seen a couple fish. And Sunday we were back home. The whole weekend was a blur. And then came Monday. It started out so promising… until my computer wouldn’t power on. In case you missed that – My computer, it would not turn on. I nursed an Elevated Level (that would be a nice DHS yellow) panic all day telling myself that my hard-drives were probably ok and it was just a broken On button right? RIGHT?! Chris had to talk me down several times during the day and that evening I drove downtown to hang the new show at Vox. Before I even got out of the car I took a Maxalt for my looming migraine. And that was my world until Saturday afternoon.…

You’re invited!
September Show at Vox Sacramento as promised – information about my upcoming show at Vox Sacramento next month! This is a group show for members of the Flickr group Sacramento Photographers. The Artist Reception is Friday, Sept 11th and you should definitely come by – beat the Second Saturday rush! This will be the first showing of my photographs (besides the 2 hanging at the Lincoln Twelve Bridges library) and I am so excited about it. And a bit intimidated – the works of 25 other fantistic photographers will also be on display. I can’t wait to see everything! I also can’t wait to finally decide which photos to show. I know, I know, I’ll have it all worked out by the end of the weekend. I hope.
a Hodge-podge, but no Brady
Damn woman – have a little patience! The uber-in-laws called while I was cooking dinner. Over the speaker-phone I promised to post a pic of Kyle’s new haircut. 20 minutes ago, while I was still helping Kyle with his homework, I received the following email:”I rushed home (okay, there was a pizza stop in the ‘rush’ part) to see Kyle’s haircut on your blog!!! I was promised!! Oh, deceiving phone calls on speaker.”Well then. As promised! The new and improved Kyle – BEHOLD!I had forgotten that he even had eyebrows!Reading listAnd while I have your attention P, how is Lamb coming along? I finished Island of the Sequined Love Nun and it did not disappoint! It wasn’t as laugh-out-loud as some of his other books, but the ending had me grinning like a fool. 5 Stars. Classic Moore. Yum!2 days ago…Sunday afternoon, I finally scanned the negs from the roll of film I shot with the Supersampler. Today I uploaded 7 of the 12 ‘keepers’ to Flickr. I’ll post the rest tomorrow – but gee wiz, if I don’t get them up right away, cut me some slack eh?!
Utata Speaks ’08
So, did anyone make it through the whole 81 minutes of that Library of Congress webcast? Yeah, me neither. I barely made it through that lady’s introduction. Man, she was putting me to sleep. But I’m going to make it up to you right now, with an even better way to spend your valuable time – Utata has published its big annual project!Yay! Photo essays from my favorite Flickr group. I submitted a personal essay singing the praises of drive-by shooting in Santa Cruz – and then didn’t shoot at all while we were there this past weekend. But that is no reason not to go and check out everyone else’s entries. (helpful tip of the day – that banner is a link, click it!) I haven’t had a chance to read many of the essays yet (still folding laundry thank you very much) but between kid-wranglin’ and homework I might have 5-7 minutes free this evening. Wait… Kyle has baseball practice tonight – did I wash his uniform?Well, I would love to tell you more about our weekend and the CIA, but I’ve got to call and sing Happy Birthday to the lovely Julie T’s answering machine.
